People in the application industry develop and modify computer applications to meet a need. System engineers configure and manage an organization's computer operating systems, which can include intranets and other networks.

Educational requirements

Most jobs require a degree in computer engineering or a related field. Computer engineering programs include computational and physical sequences as well as computer programming courses. Advanced courses can explore electrical engineering topics such as circuits, digital systems, and signal processing. In addition to lectures and discussions, students may be required to enroll in computer lab courses that use computers to analyze data and generate models.

Job prospects and payroll information

The BLS noted that the overall employment of hardware engineers is expected to grow 6% between 2018 and 2028. Those who have graduated from an accredited degree program and who have experience with computer software should see the best opportunities. As of May 2018, the median annual salary for hardware engineers was $ 114,600. The BLS also reported that software application developers earned an average salary of $ 103,620, while those in the systems industry earned an average salary of $ 110,000 annually.

IT engineers perform complex technical functions, such as designing new hardware, testing systems, and analyzing software requirements. They are usually required to have a degree in computer engineering or a related field. Job growth in this field is expected in the coming years, so education and experience are important.
