Data Specialist Duties and Responsibilities

Data scientists transmit duplicate information to electronic data systems. They typically monitor the entire conversion process, working closely with customers to ensure that this data is accurate and available. A data collector should examine the data sources to verify the accuracy of this information. Data scientists may also be responsible for designing private client databases and training clients using data storage and retrieval systems, databases and software.

Data scientists work primarily in the IT departments of companies, but can also work in consulting companies, government agencies, or the healthcare industry. Employment growth forecast for data managers, such as data scientists, is 11% by 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The employment rate for data storage managers who also design systems is expected to be 26% over the same period. The growing reliance on third-party companies to process data and cloud computing services is believed to be the main driver behind these job growth forecasts.

Data Specialist Duties and Responsibilities

Several tasks occur for data scientists when meeting, analyzing, and verifying data stored in databases or specially designed data storage systems. We have analyzed several job postings for data scientists and found that most employers list the following jobs and responsibilities in this position.

Analyze and check the data

Data scientists typically begin each data conversion process by conducting an in-depth analysis of customer data. They will examine the data sources and make necessary corrections to the existing data to ensure the accuracy of the recorded information.

Create a digital conversion program

A data collector will often analyze existing customer systems and develop a program for that particular system. In some cases, a data scientist may design a data collection or program needed to replace the data.

Create reports

Data scientists should regularly provide updates on the progress of the consumer conversion program. They should present reports on work and work disruptions, exceptions, costs and analysis results.

Provide technical support and assistance

Once a conversion project is completed, a data scientist typically trains a client using a database or software system. Data scientists also protect databases and answer any questions users have about the system.
