Duties and responsibilities of the customer assistant

Customer assistants talk to customers in person and on the phone to answer complaints, answer questions, and collect money from overdue accounts. Call centers, debt collection agencies, insurance companies, financial centers, retail stores, and high-volume businesses hire full-time and part-time job assistants. Client assistants generally work during the day, although this varies by hiring company. Customer assistants work directly under assigned managers, usually as part of a larger team of customer assistants.

Duties and responsibilities of the customer assistant

The job duties of customer assistants vary widely based on their industry and the needs of the company they hire. However, there are several basic tasks that are the same for all types of customer assistants:

Answer and make phone calls

Customer assistants receive incoming calls and make outgoing calls to customers.

Resolve customer complaints and problems

Customer assistants provide answers to customer questions and resolve problems and complaints. This includes providing technical support, explaining how products work, and troubleshooting for customers who are dissatisfied with their products, services received, or amount billed.

Maintain customer records

Customer assistants record information in customer files, keeping these records up-to-date regarding communication, issues resolved, invoices paid, and other relevant customer account information.

Collections

Customer assistants set payment deadlines with customers who have yet to pay their bills and communicate with customers to collect money from overdue accounts.

Keep work areas clean

Customer assistants keep their workspaces clean and organized. They also keep the customer areas clean and attractive.

Train new staff members

Customer assistants provide basic training to new staff members to show them how to approach customers correctly and how to handle customer problems and related issues.
